There are two main problems in searching for anything:
1. finding too many matches; and
2. finding no matches.
Too many matches
Example: If you search
IreGaz for "Drum" with the selection set to "START of name",
with nothing entered in any other Criteria,
you will be offered over 2,000 matches.
Step 1: Change the selection to "Exact name", you will be offered fewer than 20 matches.
Step 2: If you have some clue as to which part of Ireland you want to search, you could enter a Province into the criteria.
The Provinces can be roughly selected by the points of the compass:
North: Ulster - 6 matches
East: Leinster - 0 matches
South: Munster (includes all of the South West) - 3 matches
West: Connaught - 8 matches
No matches (usually a problem with spelling)
Example: If you search
IreGaz for "Drumryland" with the selection set to "EXACT name",
with nothing entered in any other Criteria,
you will be offered 0 matches.
Step A: Change the selection to "START of name", and keep searching as you delete one letter at a time off the end of the name.
At last, when you are searching for "Drumry", you will get 1 match. But it doesn't really look like what you wanted,
as there is no "l" in it.
So try "Drumr". Dramatic change, you now have over 100 matches.
Step B: You can cut down the number of matches by using Step 2 above.
Or you can inspect the list of matches,
and see that only "Drumraighland" seems to have something like the right sequence of consonants and vowels.
Or you can set the name logic to "AND", and search for "START of name" "Drumr" "AND" "END of name" "land".
